Victorian Irish Crochet Child's Bonnet

This Victorian child's bonnet is one of the most exquisite bonnets that I have come across. It is encased in hand made three dimensional Irish crochet and mixedantique lace. The foundation is a heavy net with wiring for shape with double brims framing the face. The lining between the two brims is made up of several layers ofsheer ivory organdy with lavish ruffles of tulle and lace matching the lace that trims the outer bonnet. Large silk bows are found on both sides where the chin ties attach. The chin tie on the left side is missing. The Irish crochet is extremely detailed and a riot of three dimensional flowers and vines.

The overall condition is very good with some slight discoloration on the back of the crown, just a few smudges really and not terribly noticeable. There is some splittingon the silk bows and chin ties, again, nothing major but it is there. (The bows are shown stuffed with tissue paper which will be left intact for shipping.) Inner lining is a light chine silk, both it and the organdy lining do show wear in the form of slight fraying at the edges with no apparent soiling. Overall, this is a wonderful piece that would be appropriate for a larger doll or display purposes. Inside circumference around opening is 14.5" with a crown height of 9" and a depth of 5".
