Victorian 1890s Misses' Summer Dress
This young misses' dress dates to the late 1890s and features a fitted bodice with ruching at the neckline and fitted, ruched sleeves with a ruffled cap at the shoulders. The fabric is a loose weave cotton in pale yellow with a blue coral like pattern printed on it. The bodice is trimmed with narrow silk ribbon in turquoise. Bodice is fully lined in light brown cotton with boning in the front and back.
The skirt is unlined. Closure at the waistband would have been with hooks and eyes which are missing. The deep ruffle is swaged around the hemline.
Overall condition is good to very good. There are two seams at the sides of the back which were opened up for fit at some point and would be very easy to restitch. In addition there is discoloration on the back of the bodice and the left shoulder as shown in photos. This is not as dark in person as in the photos but can be seen. At one point there was an attached collar which is missing. You can see the eye at the neckline where it would have been attached. Very slight discoloration under the arms but nothing that detracts.
