Rare 1890s Salesman's Sample Book Songs That Never Die
This very rare book of song, poetry and art dates to the 1890s. In addition to songs and music you will find photos of performers of the Victorian era with biographies including actresses Lillian Russell, Adelina Patti, Della Fox and others, poetry and beautifully rendered artwork. Music is divided into eleven sections which include Songs of the Sea, Historic and Patriotic Songs, Songs of the Great Civil War, Scotch and Irish Songs, Songs of Home and Country, National Songs, Songs of Retrospect and Exile, Old Love Songs, Songs of Sentiment, Songs of the Church and Instrumental Music.
The cover and binding is different on front and back as shown with decorative fold over which I believe represents the spine decoration for each style of binding. In the back of the book are several lined paged with columns and headings for Subscribers Name, Address and Style of Binding. Front cover and spine are covered in blue cloth with embossed decoration on front with silver, gold and black decoration. The back cover is brown embossed leather with gold decoration. Page edges are marbled.
Condition appears to be unused with tight binding and minor, expected edge wear. Three pages have very minor edge tears that have been professionally restored.
This is a very rare volume and a wonderful reference for reenactors or anyone interested in period music.
