Leather Trimmed Bonnie Cashin Sweater Coat
Bonnie Cashin, known for her innovative sportswear, was one of the great American designers of the 20th century. She was especially known for her woven wools trimmed with leather. Cashin utilized leather trimmings in her designs because she could avoid the use of lining fabrics. It also satisfied her partner, Phillip Sills who, when Cashin wanted to work in fabric, insisted that all her designs featuring an element of leather. The piping satisfied his requirement while keeping the material to a minimum.
This piece is a mohair knit in dark green tones trimmed with olive green leather. The coat has a large shawl collar and is piped at all opening. The condition is excellent and quite wearable!
