Hand Embroidered Canton Piano Shawl
Gorgeous hand embroidery in white silk floss on a background of heavy weight black silk makes a stunning combination on this fine Canton shawl that dates to the first quarter of the 20th century. Featuring large fan designs in the four corners with the leaf of the fans being filled with exotic birds and flowers. The center is filled with four vases, each holding flowers, with one full blown peony centered between them. The design and workmanship is amazing with nearly every space filled with a profusion of embroidery. You will find many exotic motifs as well as flitting butterflies. Edged with lush silk fringed that falls from a wide hand knotted border.
Condition is excellent. No rips, holes, stains or other noted flaws.
Measures 52" square with a 20" fringe, including knotted border.
