Edwardian Tennis Dress French Label

Sporting outfits are always difficult to find and a pleasure to have because of the opportunity they offer to study the details of garments meant for active endeavors.

This two piece tennis dress is no exception. It is made of winter white, medium weight wool that is trimmed with white cotton poplin and blue chambray on the turned up cuffs and sailor style collar. The pieces are fastened together with hooks and eyes around the waist line to keep them in place and prevent shifting when playing. The skirt features button plackets in the front and back from about the knee to the hemline which can be unbuttoned during play to allow more freedom of movement. The label is woven on the grosgrain inner waistband of the bodice in lavender on cream and reads, Robes Et Manteaux, Melle Rougier, Lyon, 10 Rue de la Republique.

The condition is very good with only a few small moth hole in the wool the largest of which is circled in the third photo.
