Edwardian Pigeon Breasted Visiting Gown
A fashionable antique Edwardian visiting dress with pigeon breasted bodice in the style so popular in the very early Edwardian era. Made of a medium weight textured silk, the skirt is fully pleated and slightly trained in the back. The bodice is made in a bolero style with pleated chiffon forming the pigeon breasted look of the under blouse and under sleeves. The high collar is a combination of pleated chiffon and silk satin that is repeated in the cuffs and waistband. Trimmed with delicate lace. Both pieces are fully lined, the bodice is stayed with hook and eye closures in the front and back of the collar. Skirt has a velvet floor sweep. There is padding sewn inside, below and in front of the armscyes. They look like dress shields but are meant for shaping of the bodice.
The condition is very good. The silk chiffon is delicate and thin in areas as most chiffons are. Could be worn with care not to stress the chiffon.
