Edwardian Lace Wedding Dinner Gown Circa 1905

This lovely Edwardian era, mixed lace wedding or dinner gown. As far as I can tell under magnification, the laces are handmade and the embroidery on the tulle netting that encases the skirt and bodice is also hand done. The bodice is very full in the Gibson Girl style that was so popular in the early 20th century. The waist is encircled by a wide ivory satin sash that is embellished with three bows of the same silk centered with rhinestone wreaths. The sash and bodice close in the back with hooks and eyes and are fully boned. Lined in ivory silk taffeta the bodice has a middle layer of ivory chiffon between the taffeta and the lace. A high stand up collar of the Cluny lace is boned with the remnants of an original chiffon lining.

The skirt is treated similarly with a sheer organdy layer between its taffeta lining and the lace. The lining layers of the skirt are both ruffled at the hem line for extra fullness. There are some splits in the taffeta skirt lining and a few quarter sized or smaller discolorations. None of this detracts from the beauty of this fine gown and it will display well. A n excellent addition to any fine clothing collection!
