1950s Metallic Brocade Evening Gown London Label

This stunning evening gown can be worn with or without the full overskirt that attaches with hooks and eyes around the waistline. On its own, the gown is an elegant and sleek sheath. With the overskirt it becomes a statement!

The fabric is a metallic brocade printed with a pattern of lavender, white roses over gold roses that have been woven into the background. The dress closes in the back with a metal zipper. It is fully lined with woven waist stay inside to which the label is attached. The overskirt is also fully lined in lavender silk which would be revealed when one walks or sits. The back features a large inverted pleat.

The label reads Fay Fashions, 151 Park Road, NW8. NW8 or St. John's Wood is a district in the City of Westminster in London located near Regent's Park. Though I have not been able to find more information on Fay Fashions it is interesting to know that St John's Wood was one of the first London suburbs to be developed with a large amount of low density "villa" housing, as opposed to the terraced housing which was the norm in London up to the 19th century, even in expensive districts. Parts of St John's Wood have been rebuilt at a higher density, but it remains a highly desirable residential district. It is known for its Cricket grounds as well as for the famous Abbey Road Studios where the Beatles recorded many of their records including Abbey Road.
